When I put these together on my journal and at Many Paths to Tread this will actually come just before last week's, which will be the last in the set.
Grandmother took time choosing Osred’s gift – time, too, to negotiate the price, as was only right. Once the new belt, with its fine bone buckle, was in her basket she walked past the alehouse and heard singing.
She knew the song for her husband had often sung it; the tale of the wee man laid in the deep dark earth, who rose up, to be cut down, rolled, tied, drowned… to become the toast of all.*
And she was oddly pleased that, despite being treated almost as cruelly, the Rohirrim had ale and could sing for the pleasure of it.
*For those who aren't familiar with the song here is the version I know best - although doubtless the Rohirrim call the wee man by a sightly different name!
Also - Osred's new belt would have a buckle like one of these.
