In her dress of blue and silver Lothíriel knew she looked well; complementing her father and brothers. Lords and ladies of the court were all arrayed most opulently as they celebrated the King’s return.
Then she noticed small areas of duller colours – the Rangers of the North wore plain grey; they had made no attempt to dress suitably. The Rohirrim captains, likewise, seemed to have made little effort. They looked dowdy.
Then, with a shock, she realised these men had come to Gondor’s aid with only battle-wear; embarrassed now by the peacocks, she decided to dance tonight only with thrushes.
