Disclaimer: Tolkien yadda yadda yadda. Though, actually, I could call this 'inspired by' only, because, as is often the case with my drabbles, no names are mentioned.
Author's Note: For the 'Life Aquatic' challenge. I hadn't written on this subject in a little while, so here goes.
It felt the floating thing. Hard wood, smoothed to the likeness of pearl. Some small sprays flowed in, to caress the sun-warmed skin. There was metal here, also: cold and harsh; and a roundel, broad and strong, like the cloven shell of some great sea creature, placed upon the lifeless thing.
Lifeless. The waters knew. They flowed around and in; it did not cough and retch as the living things of the land did; still and silent and alone. The waves enveloped the thing that was abandoned; taking it down into itself. Down to the deeps, for all the days.
