It was a Dark and Stormy Night …

Legolas waited with Arod in the pouring rain. At last the great stone doors of Aglarond opened and Gimli stood before him. “Legolas! Welcome, my friend; welcome! How did you … ah, no!” He switched to careful Sindarin in accordance with their agreement to each learn the other’s language. “How – did – you – get – here?”

Legolas frowned, collecting his thoughts and his still patchy knowledge of Khuzdul. “I rode,” he said cautiously, hoping he had the right inflection.

Gimli stared at him, then beyond to the storm-tossed lake. “You rowed?” he repeated incredulously. “!’m amazed. Surely the road would be safer?”
