(Not a) River challenge: Flow: Golden Fall: Kortirion

Title: Golden Fall
Author: Kortirion
Character: Smaug
Rating: G
Source: The Hobbit
Disclaimer: Tolkien created these creatures, this world, those events.

Ripples glimmered, shining brightly where stray sunbeams caught them, dully reflective in the shadows; the tiny cascade gathered into a torrent that flowed down and around the massive stone pillars – a stream, no a river, of golden coins and ingots. The flow held cups, plates, bride-pieces, reliquaries… Smaug robbed indiscriminately… his lust was for evermore soft, malleable, beautiful gold!

The small burglar flitted near-silently from nook to cranny, around pillar and shadow, only stooping when one particularly shiny morsel caught his eye…

The dragon heard, distinguishing every clink not caused by his turnings… and the thieving magpie was no more...
