Title: Comfort

Author's Notes: For the 'Queens' challenge. I don't think I've ever tried to write about this lady before, thought I've often thought her an interesting character.

This hall was not of stone but gilded wood. The people were worn and sun-gold; their finery grime-stained. Even her husband, though fair and noble, was crowned with dirty curls, smelling more of his horse’s sweat than of the sweet oils she had brought as gift and dowry.

Her son would not be a sea-lord, but a field-bred horseman. Even now, he took more pleasure in his pony than in her tales of tall ships in the south.

But, as she watched Elfwine at play upon his little steed, she took comfort in her strange yet happy home, and smiled.
