They came out of the night with the Moon’s glare at their backs. Silhouetted, huge and terrible; blood-hungry weapons rose in merciless slaughter. In awful near-silence they wreaked ghastly vengeance upon our small camp.
We’d not expected the ravening ones here, in our mountain fastness. We thought ourselves safe, but they smelt us out; the fell light in their pale eyes terrifying to behold.
They give no quarter.
We expect none.
Battle is to the death... ours... or theirs.
I scream defiance, vowing to take them with me... but I fall beneath the terrible, shining Elves with their grim smiles...

We hunted the animals through the forest before tracking them to their lairs in the high mountains – they are abominations. They must die.
Ithil was generous; it showed the path clearly until we finally saw them below us, feasting on flesh profaned by their hands. Oh vengeance would taste sweet on my aching blade!
No one shouted. None gave the kindness of forewarning the up-coming slaughter... why should we? They had fallen like fiends, biting, ripping... they’d taken her with them, and we must bring her home... whatever we found there – whatever was left....
