This is set in my 'Returnverse' - Rumil is a warrior first and foremost, but he is also an artist.
Rumil carefully prepared the hairs from the pelt of the dead marten, fastening them to the smooth wood with as much care as he fletched his arrows. Then he trimmed them to form exactly the right shape.
He looked at the finished piece from all angles before deciding he was happy with it.
Sitting for a few minutes, he looked back to the moment he wanted, remembering how the light fell, how the fabric draped.
Then, already seeing the finished work in his mind, he took the new brush, dipped it in the colour, and applied it to the paper.
