This drabble really had to feature my character Tindómë. Those who don't know her - it is sufficient to know that she was raised by mortals who had no idea she was immortal.

Her name had been Dawn, in the Common tongue, but Legolas had commented that it was not really a name – it was as if she was known as ‘dinner-time’ or ‘mid-day’. Whilst the hobbits thought this amusing, Dawn could see his point.

“If you are to live amongst elves an elvish name would be better. ‘Minuial’ means day-break…”

But that hadn’t seemed right – it would still be like being called ‘mid-day’. So they had gone for the more classical, Quenyan, ‘Tindómë’.

Now a Quenyan speaking Noldorin princess asked her, “Why are you known as dawn? Why not mid-day or evening?”
