The King’s footsteps rang hollow in Rath Dínen, almost hesitant. The silence which had given the street its name smothered them; their sound was covered softly by the ashen snow. The greyish-white flakes were settling everywhere, on the white floor, in the greyish-black strands of the King’s hair, on the blackened ruin before him.

Settling everywhere, covering – nay, sullying everything.

Theirs was not the purity of snow, nor its forgetfulness, just as the silence meant neither comfort nor oblivion. The stains on the marble reminded him of the tragedy, shouting out their mute message: A King to rule without Steward.
