Title: Heirloom
Author: SheBit
Characters/Pairing: Why change the hobbit habit of a lifetime - you'll have to figure it out for yourselves, just as always. The beauty of being a mod is the ability to bend the rules with impunity.
Rating: G
Warnings: Mild crossover. I thought some of you might like to be forewarned.
Book/Source: LotR, with hints of movieverse, and a little something extra.
Disclaimer: All names used belong to... well, no names are mentioned, but inspiration was certainly drawn from the Professor and another author, who will remain nameless for now.
Author's Note: I apologise for this. It isn't strictly allowed, and if anyone else tries it I'll set faramir_boromir on them - she bites, apparently. And it's all her fault, anyway. Sort of. Again, I'm going with the 'mods are above the law theory'. My one daft, indulgent drabble.

Calloused fingers traced metal chased with gold and bound with dark-stained leather. Hesitatingly he lifted it. The hilt felt solid in his grip. It was still sharp, the blade drawing a red bead from his finger. He hefted it, marvelling at the weight and power of the weapon, eyes smiling at the thought of wielding it in battle.

The ancient thing was just an heirloom now - it would never see battle again, despite the blood on his finger.

“Sir, we should go.”

He gazed longingly at the sword once more before returning it with a sigh.

“Aye, Pat. I’m coming.”

Additional Disclaimer: Bernard Cornwell created and owns Richard Sharpe and Patrick Harper, and I'm very grateful to him for doing so.

Aragorn and Boromir will march again.
