Challenge: Unmentionables – Compass
Author: Kaylee Arafinwiel
Summary: Olwë compares a new wayfinder with Finwë and Inwë’s invention.
“Thy invention is most helpful,” Olwë agreed. “But see you what Elwë hath learned.” He reached into his belt pouch and pulled out a small stone, a wooden cup, and an iron needle. “This needle was given to us by the Teachers.”
Finwë and Inwë watched with interest as the grandson of Enel rubbed the needle on the stone. Kneeling, he filled the cup with water from the streamlet burbling past, then dropped the needle into it. The needle swung round. “There north lies,” he said, pointing.
Finwë and Inwë marveled. “That will help thee on land, too,” Inwë remarked.
