Great Outdoors challenge: Hills and Park

Title: O’er the Hills, and O’er the Main…
Author: Kortirion
Character: Halbarad
Rating: G
Source: Pre-Ring War
Disclaimer: Tolkien constructed this epic tale, Kortirion pencilled in a note.

Hills, dales, corries and coombes, gullies, ravines… high mountain passes; there seemed very few places made of level ground! Halbarad never thought he’d see so much as he did in his first years among the Rangers… and now all the Southern paths he’d travelled.

But here, on the Pelennor… it was flat as parkland. A good place for horses… for a battle-charge… He shivered in his saddle.

“What’s the matter?” said his young companion.

“Nothing… just that shudder, when they say ‘someone walked over your grave.’

“Not here, my friend, we’re needed back at the Angle,” said young Strider, grinning.
