Chracters: Merry & Pippin
Disclaimer: Tolkien’s premise, Tolkien’s plot.
The night was dark, but inside the inn there was fellowship and good cheer… apart from that greasy looking man at the bar; Butterburr had already warned the Hobbits to be wary. Pippin, thoroughly enjoying his second, or third, pint, found he’d a growing reputation for newsworthy gossip… and was busy explaining the hobbits were his cousins of various degrees, and how Mr Underhill had brought his gardener along, when suddenly… Frodo vanished!
What a to-do! What uproar!
When things were calmer, Pip remarked: “That was a close-shave... do you think anybody noticed?”
...Before the cloaked man bundled them upstairs.
