Legolas was pulled from his reverie by the sound of a small being clearing his throat. He looked down and saw Sam's dark brown eyes, glinting at him in the darkness. "What do the stones say?" Sam asked.

Legolas hesitated. “Strange things. These are not like stones in Hollin. They are... hard to understand."

"I see." Disappointed, the hobbit nodded and walked away.

Legolas looked back at the cold dark path they had followed. The stones spoke of silent drums, hidden evil, and sleepless malice. He did not understand their meaning perfectly, no... but neither did he want to understand.
