He falls asleep on a precarious pile of century-old manuscripts, face smudged with black ink and dust. Boromir enters the room noisily, sword clanging against the wooden doorframe; Faramir awakes with a start, eyes wide and lips already murmuring a penitent, “Forgive me, sire.”
“Peace, brother,” Boromir reassures easily, smoothing Faramir’s dark hair absently. “It is only me.”
Faramir’s lips curl in a sleepy half-smile, and he scrubs an ink-spattered palm over his eyes. The sleeve of his tunic falls down, revealing hastily-scripted words on the pale inside of his wrist. Boromir barely makes out Imladris and Isildur and Halfling.
