For the “Longest Day” Challenge. The slimmed-down version of my B/T-centric Solstice celebratory double drabble L’Chayim.
We spent that long Midsummer’s day in battle. As the bridge fell we jumped; touching things in that water we never wish to think of again. But then we were on the riverbank, side by side, coughing, gasping.
After the tumult of the day, the moment seemed dreamlike: the soft, perfumed air, the pale stars glimmering in the Midsummer night sky.
Suddenly I began to laugh. Faramir stared at me as though I were a madman – had I not always been the stalwart one? – then took me in his arms, rocking me like a child, as I wept for joy.
