Birthdays/Parties challenge: Kortirion: 'Celebrations: 'Before' and 'After' - a pair of drabbles

Title: The Celebrations: 'Before' and 'After'
Author: Kortirion
Character: Legolas ...and friends!
Source: RotK ...maybe movie!verse and certainly even then it's AU
Disclaimer: Tolkien made Middle-earth beautiful - and there is a balrog in Angband with Kortirion's name on it!

Under the midsummer stars the lines of Edain and Eldar were united with great solemnity and celebration ...and as the evening wore on, with good Gondorian ales, Dorwinion wines, and fiery dwarf-made spirits. They flowed like ...well ...water - because, at first, the visiting Elves tasted little else but flavoured liquid. Although they did notice the rising noise-level away from the royal marquee, and the sudden bouts of dancing and explosions of lusty singing that were breaking out with increasing frequency, especially among the Rohirrim. It was about then that the tingling in Legolas’ fingers had risen suddenly to his ears.

Now, as the pale dawn of a new day broke, it felt as if a drummer still banged out a mad rhythm behind his eyes – the sensation was appalling. He must be dying... He was poisoned!

Struggling to sit up he noticed he was encircled by sleeping dwarves ...all dressed in make-shift skirts. Then he realised his hair was loose. He staggered up and found he wore one of Arwen’s gowns ...Sweet Eru! That ghastly vision of himself performing ‘The Marchwarden’s Daughter’ - with all the actions - accompanied by a bunch of Dwarves wasn’t a terrible dream after all!!
