Adverb challenge - Speedily: 'Leaf Fall' : Kortirion

Title: Leaf Fall
Author: Kortirion
Character: Haldir
Source: TT movie!verse
Disclaimer: Middle-earth is Tolkien’s, the movies are New Line’s – but the thoughts are Kortirion’s

He gazed down at the fallen, golden leaves of stately trees, each once touched by starlight and moonshine, now abruptly dropped to bestrew the muddy ground. Haldir thought he heard the whisper of branches tossed by the wind… or was it his own breathing?

“How speedily they fall”, he thought, ‘in such a brief time they are become as Men and have a limit to their season.’

He sighed, sinking to his knees among the once bright Leaves of Lorien. He saw beloved faces - friends gone so swiftly, all farewells must be given in Mandos’ halls - and he joined them.
