The Dark

Title: The Dark

Disclaimer: It's all Tolkien's, I just like to wander his shadowed realms.
Author's Note: For 'the dark' challenge. Whose bright idea was the rhyming verse? Oh, right, mine. Trying to achieve rhyming and scantion in one hundred words is... tricky.

I have known the darkness,
And the darkness has known me;
I have walked beside it always,
'Twixt my home and moon drenched sea.

Arm in arm we've trod our path,
Through all these shadowed lands;
I have felt it in the cries of death,
And upon my bloodied hands.

It has whispered soft and coaxing,
In bare and blood soaked fields,
Of all the power it might bestow
And of all the might it wields.

But never did I fear it more,
Than when I heard it sing:
'In Gondor waits an empty throne,
For you, its errant king'.
