Only the bones of his conviction were left to gnaw. The protruding horns of the terror in his soul shredded his skin, his clothes and made him colder. His mind traveled into the light and sounds of his life. The night scraped across the sand and he could not listen to the wind gossip with the grass. He looked up, here, where the stars are strange, and drew a deep breath. He smiled grimly as a star twinkled, shining brighter than the other stars in infinity. Earendil glimmered here for him, towards the North, towards home and his own Evenstar.
