Now Lorien’s Elves trusted them, the Marchwarden prepared to take the men on patrol of the borderland. As active men, after a few days they chafed at having idle hands and minds.
Boromir watched fascinated, realising the elves used the same pattern as the Ithilien Rangers, six walking forward two at a time, separated by ten paces, the leaders overtaken by the pair behind, the rear pair walking forward watchfully; they moved purposefully, each guarded by the other.
“That’s Ithilien’s way! A Captain Thorongil taught them...” whispered Boromir.
Aragorn just nodded, smiling, “ ’Tis good to have a friend behind you.”
