Of rapiers and goosequills

I live in an age of peace and prosperity. Our king sits secure upon his throne, we fear no threat to the land, the people sleep safely in their beds.

Yet day after day, night after night, war becomes my lifeblood as I transcribe the Red Book of the Periannath.

Mordor rises up, Osgiliath is lost, orcs overrun the Pelennor, Minas Tirith all but falls.

I weep for my brother Boromir, serve my captain Faramir, bow down to my king Elessar. Heroes of another age - so close, and yet so far.

Would I had been a warrior, not a scribe.
