Even the sight of the black ships could not daunt him. He was king, he lived to fight, and fight he would until his dying breath.
Sword brandished high he laughed in proud defiance, yet as if in answer a mighty standard unfurled and with it joy flooded his soul.
‘Guthwine for the Mark!’ he sang as he cast the blade high into the sunlight - a tumbling, shimmering signal to the one foremost among those leaping from the ships.
‘Andúril!’ came the reply. ‘Andúril for the Dúnedain!’
And so in the midst of battle the two swords met once more.
