Disclaimer: Tolkien imagined the wonders of Middle-earth... Kortirion merely wondered.
To be true to yourself is one thing... to be truly honest... quite another. For so long my brothers fought remorselessly, in pursuit of being true to our Oath that none be countenanced to withhold the Silmarils - that rash promise damned us all.
But can I honestly say I did not enjoy the battle? Did not revel in seeing my sword wet... stained crimson with my enemies’ blood? No. My eyes blazed bright, my fea leapt; I trembled with the joy of slaughter! ...Only afterwards ...when those fires cooled ...then I could honestly say I despised what I had become.
