When Darkness Falls

Title: When Darkness Falls
Source: LotR
Disclaimer: It's all the Professor's.
Author's Note: For the 'falls' challenge. I wrote a Gondorian drinking song ages back, so I thought it was about time I wrote a lullaby to go with it. I haven't written rhyming verse in an age, so be gentle.

When darkness falls, my love,
Sleep easy and calm,
For I am beside you,
To keep you from harm.

When darkness falls, my love,
Be not afraid,
For the Guards of the Citadel
Stand as our lord bade.

When darkness falls, my love,
Do not make a cry,
For bright Tillion watches,
As he crosses the sky.

When darkness falls, my love,
Dream sweet, do not weep,
For the Elves in their towers
Under starlight don't sleep.

When darkness falls, my love,
Be not forlorn,
For the King is in exile,
But returns with the dawn.

A Gondorian lullaby, Traditional.
