“What did you see?” said Pippin to Sam, but Sam was too deep in thought to answer.



MIRRORMERE

“What did you see?”

The question was simple -- the words understood despite hurt and weariness. But the answer…

He had no words for the answer.

It was a pool seemingly like any other, filled with nothing.

Yet…

At the same time filled with everything. Mounts, peaks and plumes of white flame. And beyond – a dazzling night sky filled with stars skittering across the surface – jewels skipped by a darkling child.

It was the terrestrial and the celestial… the essence of life. The eternal.

Yet he saw no reflection of himself?

Or perhaps…

It was all a reflection of himself.
