A City of Scarlet Flowers
Faramir can’t remember when he first noticed them, but now he sees them everywhere. Great tubs of scarlet geraniums at each street corner; clay pots of crimson zinnias on windowsills; hanging baskets of ruby-red impatiens flanking doorways.
There had always been flowers; in a city of white stone all growing things were treasured. When, he wonders aloud, did they all become red?
“Just a way of rememberin’, my lord, what was shed for us, without getting sad and all. Pretty, aren’t they? Lively.”
Lively: full of life, vigor, spirit. Yes. Scarlet flowers for remembrance, in celebration of love and renewal.
