The summer had been poor, as if even the weather bowed to the darkness and did its bidding.
The grass was not as long, as lush, as it should be; but, still, it needed cutting and turning – for without the hay the horses and cattle would not survive the winter. And, so, they had stayed to mow when their family had gone on to safety.
He shouldered his scythe, looked to his brother, similarly equipped, and then at the approaching orcs.
He would mow as many as he could, before he would fall and nourish the land with his blood.
