As a small boy he had helped the farm-lads gather in sheaves of wheat on the farmland outside the city gate – until his father found out and told him it was beneath his station.
As a scholar he had rejoiced in the knowledge in sheaves of paper – until his father found out and told him it was unsuitable for a warrior.
As a young man he had used sheaves of arrows to defend his country – but it was not enough for his father.
Now he took his son to help gather sheaves of wheat – and his father’s ghost went unheard.
