Author's Note: Written for the "Romance" challenge at tolkien_weekly. As a side note, I adore L/G, but this drabble is my commentary on the whole of what inspires Gimli to sail.
Summary: Not all jewels lie beneath the ground.
The Lady's Favor
"You had better be right, laddie."
The waves splashed up the sides of their coracle and rocked the little ship like a child playing with a toy. Over the bow, Gimli saw the westering sun trail its jewel-like path.
"Again, Gimli, the Lady is mighty. She will obtain this grace for you."
"But who ever heard of a sailing dwarf?"
Gimli's companion only smiled down at him. "Do you remember," the elf asked, "what you said to me after leaving Lorien?"
"Aye. I have looked my last upon that which was fairest."
This time, it was Gimli's turn to smile.
