The Last Bridge

Asfaloth seemed to have wings on his hooves as they flew along the West road. They reached the Mitheithel in only two days, and Glorfindel paused in the shade of an ancient, twisted yew, as old and venerable as an Ent.

He was at the head of a long coomb that led down to the river. Ahead he saw a shadow of darkness on the bridge, and a wave of malice washed towards him. Drawing his sword he cast off his cloak, letting all his otherworldly light blaze forth.

With a wild, exultant laugh he rode down upon the Nazgûl.
