And the Dead Still Lingers
The Dead breathes words into his face.
He doesn’t understand...but they do.
He is not the one who will make them transcend these paths.
They pool at his feet, like seepage of old light from under doors to long locked-up chambers, and rise slowly, drenching him in all-pervading anger. They smell of perfidy and mould...and disappointment.
In the eyes meeting his tattered rags of light hovers in pools of spent time; trapped, extinguished at source...and forced to linger.
Their anger recedes and lets another feeling in. His last memory is of choking and breaking...on a surge of desolation.
