West, West Away
They sailed for days beyond Gimli's counting. Despite the Dwarf's worried grumbling, Legolas never left the tiller: drawn tight as his own bowstring, gazing unresting into the West as though his own desire and not the wind filled their sails.
Then one – night? Morning? He woke from dozing with a falling sensation as though the earth itself dropped away beneath them; opening his eyes into blinding light which gave way to a calm sea gently lapping the bows, and green land on the horizon.
“Is this...world's end?”
Legolas radiated pure, exultant joy. “World's end? Nay! World's beginning!”
