Time Is Always Time and Place Is Always and Only Place
Sometimes memories hit him like a fist in the gut. Sometimes they spin and call out to him at the edge of his dreams.
He had expected them to become softer...like viewed through a sunlit screen. Instead they get sharper...poking him through thinning walls.
One night he dreams he walks through a frost-covered courtyard; the fountain an opaque mirror, the Tree encrusted in salt-like rime.
Frozen puddles break under his bare feet as he continues through the silent streets, across a pale Pelennor...and along the embracing arm of the Great River.
When he wakes he knows he’ll be leaving soon.
