Character: Gimli and King Elessar
Disclaimer: Tolkien created Middle-earth and all who dwell there.
Gimli knew his duty. Oh, they’d grumbled that a dwarf, an outsider, should tend to their king on such an important occasion... but even stiff-necked courtiers bent to King Elessar’s will.
Gimli brought along his favourite old comb, as requested. He teased tangled hair into place, combed the beard, arranged the cloak into artistic folds – just as he’d done for another Gondorian lord, so long ago... but that hair had still been dark, while these locks were silver-white...
Boromir went to the waters, Aragorn to stone...
“May their fea find one another”, Gimli murmured, stepping back from his work.
