The drought had been upon them for some time. One got used to making do with little… but absence was a harsher affliction to bear. Théodred did what he could to take his mind off his thirst, but precious memories of watery abundance plagued him… enough moisture to dampen parched lips, enough water to immerse a tired body in a hot bath, enough heat therein to make the mind drowse and the spirit soar as steady lapping aroused… aroused…
But all there was, was enough wine to occasionally slake a thirst, and create hazy forgetfulness amidst night-time hours of dreaming.
