At long last...

At first he was alarmed when Mablung fell to his knees, but as Faramir drew closer, he realized the grizzled ranger was smiling. With great tenderness, Mablung caressed the newly ploughed earth with his good hand.
Faramir watched Mablung’s one remaining eye close as the blood and ashes and tears of three lifetimes sifted between his fingers.
Gently, Faramir laid a hand on his shoulder. “Mablung?”
Close now, he realized Mablung was laughing. The old ranger looked up at Faramir with a euphoric grin. “Captain…” he whispered, as fresh tears sprinkled the earth. “Bless the Valar, Faramir, I…I am home!”

A/N: My headcanon Mablung :) (hugs him untill he shoves her off).
(Canon) The last of Ithilien's inhabitants fled in in 2954, 61 years before the War of the Ring.
(Not Canon) One of those last farmers, Mablung's grandfather, did not survive when his family left Ithilien, and some say he refused to leave.
