“Théoden likes hearing of other places.  I’ve told him somewhat of the far lands you’ve talked about, with the paper lanterns and dragon-rider legends.”

“I’ve one gathering dust somewhere.”

“A dragon-rider?” Gríma tried jesting.

Saruman, oblivious to the winds visiting the rooftop, spared him a glance.  “A paper lantern you might present to Théoden for that Yule thing.  Intimate something impressive and respectable about trade connections.”

“You don’t wish to keep such a lantern?”

Isengard was colorless under winter’s stars, bare trees like iron sculptures puncturing the snow.  The wizard seemed, briefly, aware of the cold.  “No.”
