Source: The Hobbit
Characters: Thranduil, Legolas

[My Drabble-muse is very very rusty, and you wouldn't believe the trouble I've been having coaxing her out, so this is rather late. She wouldn't even talk to Legolas, initially, and then another member of the Royal House of Mirkwood pulled rank...]
"You, of all people, know what it costs us to keep this realm untroubled." Thranduil's glare fixes his son across the Council table. "We ward our folk from spiders -" fist hammering emphatically on the solid oak, "- from orcs, from the Necromancer; always patrolling, always vigilant. And now you tell me that those incursions two nights ago, disrupting the First-Fruits Feast and dishonouring Lady Yavanna, were the work of," - voice rising with his fury - "a raggle-taggle mob of half-starved Stunted Ones?"
“I like it no better than you, Father!” Legolas retorts. “What do you take me for… a Dwarf-friend?”
