Disclaimer: Middle-earth belongs to Tolkien and his heirs: I wander there for fun, not profit

This seemed like a good way to resolve the arc that began with The Axe of His Fathers and continued with What Goes Around, Comes Around...

Ask of the North Wind News of Them

“Dispatches, my friends.”  Aragorn passes sealed parchments to Elf and Dwarf, hurriedly summoned to his Cormallen tent.  “From the North.”

As the pair hastily break seals and scan he watches closely. Through pursuit, siege, battle they hid their fears well;  but with Quest achieved and Mordor routed, there’s been space and time for thoughts and hearts to turn anxiously homewards…

Gimli puffs out a long breath;  Legolas’ shoulders relax just a fraction.  They exchange glances, satisfied nods;  then sink together by unspoken consent onto the tree-trunk stools and begin comparing news and notes.

Aragorn smiles. A small, unexpected extra happiness.

~~~
('Now why did not we wish for some of our own kinsfolk, Legolas?'
Legolas stood before the gate and turned his bright eyes away north and east, and his fair face was troubled. 'I do not think that any would come,' he answered. 'They have no need to ride to war; war already marches on their own lands.'
BTW,
dearest mods, I couldn't tag this with a "challenge: blessings: happiness" tag, there doesn't seem to be one yet? Thx!
